Daniel's Law, however, changes the way people are punished for distracted driving. For example: Distracted driving is now punished similarly to drunk driving. Penalties for distracted drivers convicted of vehicular homicide have increased – these drivers could face an additional 5 years in prison.

Daniel's Law was enacted in response to the tragic death of Daniel Anderl, the son of Judge Esther Salas and Mark Anderl. The law prohibits disclosure of the residential addresses of certain persons covered by the law (“Covered Persons”) on websites controlled by state, county, and local government agencies.

Daniel's Law prohibits any person from posting, reposting, or otherwise making available the home address or unpublished telephone number of any "covered person" with the intent to expose that person to harassment or risk of harm to life or property or with reckless disregard to the possibility.
